Pick products, collections, tags or vendors, choose a rule (% off, amount off, fixed price, round to .99) and review every variant's before and after price before anything changes. By default a sale runs as an automatic discount, so stored prices are never touched. Want strike-through compare-at prices? Price-rewrite mode snapshots every original price first and restores it exactly when the sale ends. Prices are always computed from the snapshot, so discounts never compound.
